If you’re like us, you really don’t need a special occasion to make or eat treats, but special occasions certainly bring out our inner bakers (and eaters). With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we’ve been searching for some great treats to help celebrate the day. Here are five we found that look quite tasty and aren’t too difficult to make.

Valentine Cupid Chow

This fun take on Puppy Chow/Muddy Buddies is perfect for a party, bagging up for that special someone, or just snacking on the couch. The full recipe can be found here on CraftyMorning.com, but here’s the basics. Melt peanut butter, butter, and chocolate chips in the microwave. Add some vanilla then pour the chocolate mixture over Chex cereal in a large bowl. Cover and shake until the cereal is evenly coated, then sprinkle powdered sugar over the cereal. Cover and shake, then add M&Ms and/or sprinkles of your choice, and you’ve got a great snack mix.

Red Velvet Truffles

These may look really fancy, but they are quite simple to make. Start with a cooked red velvet cake that you crumble up, then add some cream cheese frosting to help form cake balls. Freeze the cake balls for 30 minutes, then dip them into melted white chocolate. Then decorate as you wish. For sprinkles only, add them right after dipping the cake balls into white chocolate, then let them cool off and harden. For red drizzle (with or without sprinkles), let the cake balls cool and harden first, then add the drizzle (and sprinkles). Want to give it a try? The complete recipe can be found here on MyHeavenlyRecipes.com.

Homemade Peanut Butter Hearts

Do you like Reeses Peanut Butter Cups (and the holiday variations)? Well, you can make your own heart-shaped version at home to share with that special someone (or just eat yourself … we won’t judge). You’ll start by creating the peanut butter mixture with peanut butter, butter, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar. After rolling that out to less than 1/2-inch thick and placing it in the freezer for 30 minutes, you’ll cut heart shapes out of it. Then dip the hearts in melted chocolate, add some decorative drizzle if you want, refrigerate for 10-15 minutes to let the chocolate harden, and you’re done! Follow the recipe here on EverydayShortcuts.com to try it yourself.

Easy Valentine’s Day Bark

This easy-to-make treat takes just 35 minutes … and 30 of that is time to set, so it’s a quick, easy treat that would be perfect to make with kids. You can find the full recipe here on MyCrazyGoodLife.com, but here’s the rundown of what you’ll need to do. Start by blending strawberry wafers and cream cheese until you have a dough-like consistency. Then spread the mixture evenly on a parchment-lined baking sheet and press it down flat. Melt candy melts in the microwave, then pour over the crust on the baking sheet. Sprinkle with M&Ms and sprinkles, then let it set for 30 minutes.

Easy Valentine Trifle

Looking for something more substantial for a dessert after dinner? Try this pink and red trifle. MakingLifeBlissful.com has the full ingredient list and instructions here, but here are the basics of making the trifle. Wash raspberries and strawberries and let them dry while you do other prep. Cut a 9×13 cake into cubes, whip cream, and make cheesecake or vanilla pudding with pink food coloring added. Then, start layering … pudding first, then cake cubes, fruit, and whipped cream, then repeat. Layer until all ingredients are gone, then refrigerate for 2 hours.
