With the warmer spring weather, you may be itching to get outside. Hey, it’s the perfect time to do a nice spring cleaning!

Here’s a list of outdoor maintenance to-do’s to help your home stay fresh and in top condition.

    1. Clear rain gutters and downspouts (2x/year)

      Over the seasons, leaves, mud, and debris may get stuck in the gutters, causing blockages and damaging your drainage system. The best way to do this clean up the gutters and spouts is to climb a ladder and sweep out all debris with a gutter scoop, dropping it into a bucket attached to your ladder. Finish with a spray from your hose to be sure your downspouts are draining properly. Don’t forget your gloves!

    2. Locate loose shingles and fix them

      While cleaning out your rain gutters, look for loose roofing shingles and replace them ASAP!

    3. Remove and spray off window screens (2x/year)

    4. Check weather stripping on doors and windows (yearly)

      Inspect all windows and doors for any peeling weather stripping or caulking. If you find any, remove it completely and reseal the window or door with new caulk or weather stripping.

    5. Wash windows and clean out window wells (2x/year)

    6. Power wash siding (bi-annually)

    7. Locate any paint chips or peeling paint (yearly)

      Take a walk around your home to look for peeling exterior paint. If you find any, strip it and apply a new coat.

    8. Check for signs of termites or pests. (yearly)

      If you see any signs of infestation call an exterminator right away.

    9. Maintain cracks in driveway or sidewalks (yearly)

      Check for any cracks and repair them with cement repair kit.

    10. Re-nail loose siding (yearly)

    11. Re-stain and seal back patio (bi-annually)

      Staining and sealing your back patio sustains its durability and slows wear.

    12. Check sprinkler heads and lines (yearly)

      Look for any broken sprinkler heads that need replacing or drip system lines that need attention.
